Welcome.

And hello. My name is Chelsea Embree, and I’ve been a writer since I was 10 years old. I currently serve Washington state’s education department, the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction.

I was raised in St. Louis, MO, and graduated from Knox College in Galesburg, IL, with a Bachelor of Arts in Creative Writing. My focus areas were poetry, nonfiction, and journalism. I was honored to be published multiple times in Catch and Cellar Door, two of Knox’s literary magazines. I also served as a reporter, arts and entertainment editor, and managing editor for The Knox Student, the college’s student-run weekly news publication.

From 2014 to 2019, I lived in Idaho, where I started my career as a reporter for the Lewiston Tribune. I then worked as a research librarian for an electrical engineering firm before moving back to the Midwest for my graduate studies. I earned my Master of Arts in Literature and Cultural Theory, as well as a Graduate Certificate in Women’s and Gender Studies, from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. While there, I also served as a first-year composition instructor and earned a graduate certificate in Women’s and Gender Studies.

This site is a small home for some of my more recent publications, as well as my teaching portfolio and a blog that I sporadically update just for fun.
